February Finishes #04: Embroidery 101 Quilt

Hi Everyone!
At last I've accomplished my goal  to finish up this quilt... the  Embroidery  101. I started this quilt in 2011  as part of a Quilt Along over at Clover and Violet. I finished the quilt top with all  the embroidery on schedule.  I choose to hand quilt  it with straight line following  the shape of the boxes created by the individual blocks on the front. I finish  up with machine binding  following Mellisa's of Happy Quilting tutorial. This is how the result looks like.

Quilt Description:
Size: 58″ x 58″
Binding: Machine bind
Quilting: Hand Quilted by me with straight lines along the sashing and around the centre of each block.
Pattern: Part of the Embroidery101: Stitch & Quilt Along hosted by Clover and Violet in 2011

I feel so pleased and happy with my accomplishment.  This is my first UFO quilt finish for 2013.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Hi Everyone!!

Do you know that Amy Ellis at Amy's Creative Side is hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival?  This is one of the platform for bloggers from all over the world to share photos of their quilts. This is my first visit and my first time to join and share my quilt with other bloggers.... not my first finished quilt top though but my first and only finished quilt at present.....  My first quilt might be nowhere to compare with all other amazing projects, but I am happy with the result.

My quilt for this Festival is a quilt that I made for my boy...I hand quilted it since my sewing machine is not suitable for sewing thick materials. My boy received an offer to further his study at the boarding school sometime in February.  Since the school is quite far from home,I decided to finish this quilt for him to bring along.

This quilt was made from scraps of cotton fabric using pinwheel pattern. The finished quilt size was 60" by 72".  This is how the back of the quilt  looks like.

I personalized the quilt by stitching some wording ... the first was  "Work Smarter Not Harder"

and  the second one... "The Future is Always Beginning Now..."

It took me about three weeks to finished  hand quilted it.

I wish each time my boy wrapped with this quilt will make him feels like I am giving him a warm hugs and reminds him of his family.

Ok... that's the end of  my quilt story...There are many more amazing projects and stories behind each quilts shared by other talented sewers quilters over at Bloggers' Quilt Festival. Have fun visiting them and enjoy the quilt show!!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Peasant top and a New FO

Hello!!

I just finished sewing a peasant top for my eight years old daughter during the weekend. This is how it looks like...
I follow the free pattern tutorial by  Lier at Ikat Bag.  It is a very simple pattern and easy to follow even for a beginner.

With that finished, I start to cut and sew my February New FO Quilt Block. This quilt is for my sister since the stash fabric were given by her.   I used nine patch design ...

and this is how I intend to arrange each block when everything finished.

January New FO projects

Hi everyone!!

These are two new projects that I've started in January 2012...

This first project was inspired from Ms. Nanette at Freda's Hive from her Scraptacular Picnic Quilt tutorial. I choose to make it  into 12 pieces of 13" blocks  from scraps fabric.   Added with 2" sashing using white fabric... and this is how it looks like once I've done... this is my first quilt top that I've sewn for 2012.

My second project is a quilt for my boy size 60" x 72"

Both are ready to be quilted with the backing.

Embroidery 101 Quilt top

I choose to sew the quilt top from the  Quilt Along that I participated at Clover & Violet for the Friday Night Sew-In.  As a beginner and my first experience to sew a quilt, I find it very difficult , especially when there are few of my blocks are not in the same size.

Earlier  I choose to follow the design recommended by Janelle by adding a 2 " sashing with a small square....I did that, but it did not turn out right.  From the picture below you can see clearly that the sashing is not in line with the block...not satisfied with the result, I ripped open and stiched the sashing without the small square.

And the result ... my first quilt top!!

And below is how it looks on my queen size bed...

Embroidery 101 : Final Block

I just finished my final block for Embroidery 101:Stitch & Quilt Along  today.

I would say that this is one of the many pattern that I like most.

Even though the Embroidery 101 Quilt Along has already reach to the final block, basically it is not ended until you  put all the nine blocks that have been embroidered together!  I think I might have problem with this since I have never sew a quilt before... anyway many thanks goes to Jennie and Janelle for include the tips on how to do it(with or without sashing).  Hope I manage ... till my next post on the assembling of the quilt top I wish everyone...

... Happy Stitching!!
