Beginner's Quilt Along

Hello there!!

Beginner’s Quilt-Along

I just  finished sewing the third block of the Beginner's Quilt Along that I participated at the Quilting Gallery. This block is called  Time for Ice Cream, commonly known as Shoo Fly.

I also share the  first and the second block which were finished some time ago.  The first block is the nine patch namely Play a game of Hopscotch.

and the second  block called Peek Over the Fence.

For this Quilt Along I am using the Flora fabric from Lauren +Jessie Jung for Moda which I bought from Sew Lux Fabric & Gift shop.  The shop is currently having a weekly sale for print charm packs for $7.75,valid through 6/23/12.

Here are all the three finished blocks in a row...

Happy Quilting!!

Garden Steps: Block #07 and #08

Hi Everyone!!

I am so happy today to accomplished my mission to finished both Garden Steps blocks during the week end.
This is how my block #07 looks like.

I used back stitch for the flowers and  stem stitch for the leaves outlines.  The center of the flowers and the leaves, I used satin stitch.

and this is the Garden Steps block #08 looks like. I used a lot of back stitch for this block especially for the bird house.

For the butterfly I used satin stitch for the center and back stitch for the outline. The center of the flowers and the bird's eye I used french knot stitch.

Happy Stitching!!

Anne handbag

Hi Everyone!!

The first bag that I’ve finished sewing in the month of June is the Anne handbag. The pattern is from Clover and Violet.

I have had this pattern for a while now and I am taking the opportunity to try this pattern for submission in the 2012 Purse Palooza contest hosted by Sara at Sew Sweetness.  I also share this handbag at Ellison Lane Quilts as my entry in the Summer sewing contest.

I used Ruby fabric by Bonnie and Camille. The bright color print and the design combination are just perfect for the sunny day.  These fabric were bought from Sew Lux Fabrics & Gifts. They have a lot of fabric choices in their store and selected  fabrics are on  SALE currently.

The handbag comes with a pocket.  Here is a view of the inside pocket.  It is big enough to fit in my coin purse and my cell phone.

Basically this is not the first pattern from Clover and Violet that I've sewn.  The first Clover & Violet pattern that I've tried was the Emma Clutch pattern.  Personally I would say that the pattern was well written and easy to follow.
Happy Sewing!!

Skirts for My Daughters

Hi Everyone!!

I finished sewing skirts for my daughters sometime last week... the  first one was for my 8 years old daughter. It was made using Vintage cotton fabric with purple lace at the edge. It is a straight cut
pattern skirt.

My daughter posing with her new skirt.

The second skirt was for my 15 years old daughter.

It was a patchwork tiered long skirt made from light cotton fabric.

Both skirts submitted as entries to the skirt week contest which was hosted by Adrianna and Susan at crafterhours. There are many more skirts shared by other sewers over at   flickr:skirt week 2012  .  Have fun and enjoy!

Bag for my daughter

Hi ...

I am sharing a project that I've made for my daughter early this year which I did not blog about. I used Elizabeth Hartman of Oh,Fransson! Margaret Bag pattern.

I re-size it to a smaller version to make it suitable for my daughter to used.  The inside was fully lining with small pocket which my daughter used to keep her sweet. I used medium weight home decor fabric.

Here is my daughter posing with her bag... and her bear which she used to carry any where she goes.

Happy Sewing!!

Crocheted Granny Square bag

Hi there!!

Today's post is about crocheted bag...it was a work by my daughter.  I am helping her to finished it up with the lining, button and the handle. This is how the front looks like with the button closure.

I choose to crochet the handle differently from the pattern... and this is how the back of the bag looks like.

I have similar pattern  from a Japanese crocheting book ... and if you're interested to crochet one for yourself please write to me at shaza.zain@gmail.com  For the bag pattern  above I am still in the process of writing, and testing it...maybe I will come out with a step by step instructions, till then...
Happy Crocheting!!

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Hi Everyone!!

Do you know that Amy Ellis at Amy's Creative Side is hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival?  This is one of the platform for bloggers from all over the world to share photos of their quilts. This is my first visit and my first time to join and share my quilt with other bloggers.... not my first finished quilt top though but my first and only finished quilt at present.....  My first quilt might be nowhere to compare with all other amazing projects, but I am happy with the result.

My quilt for this Festival is a quilt that I made for my boy...I hand quilted it since my sewing machine is not suitable for sewing thick materials. My boy received an offer to further his study at the boarding school sometime in February.  Since the school is quite far from home,I decided to finish this quilt for him to bring along.

This quilt was made from scraps of cotton fabric using pinwheel pattern. The finished quilt size was 60" by 72".  This is how the back of the quilt  looks like.

I personalized the quilt by stitching some wording ... the first was  "Work Smarter Not Harder"

and  the second one... "The Future is Always Beginning Now..."

It took me about three weeks to finished  hand quilted it.

I wish each time my boy wrapped with this quilt will make him feels like I am giving him a warm hugs and reminds him of his family.

Ok... that's the end of  my quilt story...There are many more amazing projects and stories behind each quilts shared by other talented sewers quilters over at Bloggers' Quilt Festival. Have fun visiting them and enjoy the quilt show!!

Thanks for stopping by!!
